Registration as a British Citizen: -

If you are born in the UK, it does not mean you are a citizen of the UK. There are multiple ways to get British citizenship. It is purely based on your circumstances. The way to apply for British citizenship is if you are eligible in more than one way. If you are applied for citizenship then, you can stay in the UK till the decision on your application. You are allowed to stay in the UK till the ceremony of your citizenship.

Your status under the EU settlement scheme has indefinite leave to remain or settled or pre-settled considered to be permission of stay. If you are born in the UK, UK citizenship is not automatically granted to you. It depends on when you were born and on your parents’ status. If you are born before 1st January 1983 in the UK, outside the UK in a stateless territory born after 1983, born in the UK after 1st July 2021 to present, you are eligible to apply for British citizenship. You must live and stay in the UK for at least 3 years for the spouse and civil partners visa holders with the status of “indefinite leave to remain” and EU Settlement Family Scheme. You can apply for the citizenship of the UK after 12 months if you have the status of the EU settlement scheme. You cannot apply for citizenship in the UK based on permanent residence.

Eligibility:

You are eligible to apply for UK citizenship if:

  • Any of your parents are British National.
  • Stateless People.
  • Gave up your existing citizenship.
  • You are a Crown servant.
  • You are lived in the UK for 5 years.

Rights of UK citizenship:

You are allowed to live, work, study, and avail of all the facilities offered by the government of the UK without any immigration controls. You do not need to show your visa. You are also eligible for any type of job and public funds.
